How to Start an International DOK Chapter

To start an International chapter find three or more baptized women communicants who are interested in becoming Daughters of the King and obtain approval of the Bishop and clergy in charge of the church or parish. Once these two things are in place you are ready to move forward. Below are the steps for continuing the journey of starting an International chapter.

Outline of Steps

  1. Request an International Charter Kit from the website or by contacting the National Office. The International Charter Kit contains The Application for an International Charter, publications, various forms and other information. The National Office will notify the International Chair and the Regional/Country Coordinators, who will assist as needed.
  2. If assembled, contact the Diocesan Assembly President or National President to request the Charter Kit used in your country.
  3. Ask the National Office for guidance in translation of materials.
  4. Identify a local leader to coordinate the study sessions. The clergy in charge or his/her designee may need to assist with facilitating these sessions.
  5. Hold the “Service of Preparation for Membership".
  6. If possible, provide a copy of The National Handbook and Bylaws and National Study Guide for each person interested. The person leading the Study Sessions should get a copy of the International Leader’Guide. If this is not possible, a copy of the National Study Guide and National Handbook should be available for review by the study participants and maintained by the local leader. See also the list of Materials for International Study.
  7. The new chapter may request a Prayer Partner.  The Prayer Partner Chair can match the new chapter with a US Chapter that will pray for them and may donate the cost of the crosses through  the International Cross account.
  8. Meet regularly to complete the National Study Guide in order to learn about The Order and prepare for  admission. A three-month period of discernment, discovery, and preparation is required for membership in The Order.
  9. Determine a date for "The Service of Institution of a Senior Chapter and Admission of Members", after consultation with the clergy and the Regional/Country Coordinator or the International Chair. If this is the first chapter formed in the country, the International Chair, or her designated representative, will present the Charter to the presiding clergy, the new members, and the officers to be installed.
  10. Choose a name for the chapter and select chapter officers near the end of the preparation period.  Prepare a list of participants who have completed the study and obtain written verification of this list from the clergy in charge.
  11. Submit the completed  “Application for an International Charter” to the US National Office, or, if assembled, to the Diocesan Assembly President at least two months prior to the scheduled institution date. An International Cross account is maintained by the National Office and funds may be available to assist with the cost of crosses. Contact the US National Office or Regional/Country Coordinator for information. NOTE: Assembled countries may seek approval from the International Chair to have local vendors produce their crosses.
