Country Liaison: Lydia Bush

In 1994 the Order was introduced to Cuba by Bishop Jorge Perera's wife, Teresa, who had met Daughters in the United States. Linda Zaleski, David and Ginny Bushnell, and Patricia Harper were able to visit and work with women in at least four Cuban churches who wanted to become Daughters. In 2006 five new chapters were instituted by International Chair, Dr. Deborah Ajakaiye. But because of difficulty in travel and communication, there was very little contact with the original chapters.

Revival of The Order in Cuba!
In 2013 Daughters from Charismata Chapter at St. Luke's, Live Oak, Florida traveled with members of their parish to their sister parish, Fieles a Jesús, in Matanzas, Cuba. The mission trip was to help with reconstruction of  the 100-year-old church building so that some of the homeless parishioners would have shelter and food. A Daughters of the King® chapter was instituted at Fieles a Jesús the following year.

International Chaplain and U.S. Daughters visit Three Chapters in Cuba

In May, 2019, International Chaplain Bishop William Skilton, his wife Debbe (a new Daughter), and Pam Runyon, International Assistant Chair, joined Daughters from Charismata Chapter, St. Luke's, Live Oak, FL on a friendship mission to Cuba. Deacon Phyllis Doty, Charismata Chapter Chaplain, organized the trip, along with Cuba Liaison Lydia Bush and Ann Thompson. They were assisted by Laurie Linsley and Bill Kosty, the team's photographer. The dual purpose of the trip was to meet with Daughters and to bring food and supplies to them and their parishes.

Because communication has been very difficult, until recently we had no contact with the chapters that were originally instituted in Cuba. Since 2014 we have had strong ties with the newest chapter at Fieles a Jesús Church in Matanzas, but in 2018 Matanzas Daughters connected with Principe de Paz Chapter in Los Arabos. And this year they made contact with San Pedro Apostal Chapter in Zorrilla! It was a great joy for the U.S. Daughters to meet with all three of these chapters, who have been praying and serving so faithfully in Cuba.
