Grace and I received a tour of the grounds to the Diocese compound that houses the Durgapur Child Study & Development Centre (DCSDC), a project of the Diocesan Women’s Fellowship for Christian Services, (DWFCS). Our first stop was off the grounds and across the street to the “Slums”. This is where some of the marginalized people of Durgapur live. Two of the resident girls from the DCSDC came with us and showed us where their families live. Attached pictures show the girls in front of their homes.
The Diocese of Durgapur Compound also known as St. Michael Compound, which houses the Bishop’s office and Cathedral, an eye clinic, St. Mary’s Sewing Center and DCSDC. We had the opportunity of visiting each of the areas. The school houses 32 children and provides a board curriculum of Liberal Arts: dance, music, martial art, sewing, English, mathematics, writing, etc. The school is one of six around the diocese providing housing to a total of 350 children.
St. Mary sewing center provides classes to the children. It makes all of the clothing for staff and children at all 6 locations. Each Christmas the children get new uniforms and the mother of each child gets a saree.
